I Wonder... Future......
Well my plans for the future are that i want to be a doctor when i grow up. I want to get accepted into a really good elite college and train in medicine. I don't know what type of doctor yet but I'm pretty sure i would like to be a surgeon. My aunt in India is a anesthesiologist. Whenever i go to india i usually go see a surgery with her. Its really cool because its a first hand account. Its very interesting. Except the last time i saw a surgery i kinda got light headed and got really close to fainting. but its still very interesting. Science will help me in the future because in order for me to become a doctor everything i learn here will help me in some way in the medicine field. They will help me and create more understanding for what iam doing as a doctor.

Being a doctor is always a good job. Since you already have some experience with surgeries and such, and you got the interest, you would probably make a good doctor. About the elite colleges thing, don't worry too much about that. Harvard graduate doctors and U of Arizona graduates aren't that different. A doctor is a doctor and if you can become a doctor, you know your stuff. The only reason to desire an ivy league for a doctorate is so you might be able to join their research facilities after you get your p.h.d. Harvard research in medicine is world famous so being in that is a big deal.
If you're just looking to be a doctor and lead a solid, well-paid life, a normal college is fine. Second option- do undergraduate course in normal college, do graduate course in ivy league.
I heard that the U of M has a great medical program that is going to be improved around 2010 to increase flexibility. You have plenty of options so good luck with being a doctor if you go through with it.
I was thinking about trying to be a doctor when i was young but i didn't want all the pressure of dealing with sick people and trying to save lives and stuff. I guess i could be one of those less serious doctors that only deal with minor colds but you still have to learn a lot of stuff to qualify. I think you and Adam meyers plans for the future are kinda of similiar. He wants to be a teacher which i think is a good job to pick if you want to help others. And being a doctor also helps others. So both of you are very helpful to the community.
While this does seem a bit cliche as a goal, it is also a very steady aspiration!
Med school is extremely difficult, especially the more "elite" ones, so start getting ready now.
Just by reading up a bit on medical theory, you can learn a great deal going into college, and prepare you for the rest of your life!
It amazes me how much you all know about the whole college entrance thing and the ins and outs of what you want to do and how to do it. i don't know if i should celebrate that or be a little worried. I guess it can't hurt but I just wonder if we put too much pressure on young students to make plans. It is sort of like being a one sport athlete. Athletes are told they have to specialize in one sport if they are ever going to go anywhere with it and they might potentially miss out on a breadth of experiences that can be similarly helpful. Oh well. I digress. Of course going to medical school is an admirable goal. I wish you the best of luck.
Yeah, I don't like the idea of being a doctor, the life-saving operations, and all that, but if nobody did it , where would we be? Dead, probably. Doctors are essential to the survival of man. Maybe not ESSENTIAL, but pretty much. I'd go for it was I you.
I think your lucky to have been able to look in on a surgery. It would be an interesting thing to see. Especially considering the patient basically puts themself in the doctors hands and trusts that the doctor will heal them.
It would be really hard as a doctor to have the patient trust you and then find out that you couldn't or didn't treat them well enough to heal them.
You would have to work really hard and learn your trade well enough so that your patients will trust you, sometimes even with their life (depending on what kind of surgery you do). But if you're up to the challenge I say you should go for it! Good Luck:)
i wish i could see a surgery in action. after watching an episode of greys anatomy where they did an open heart surgery, i wondered what it would be like to just craddle a beating heart in your hands as it sits in the chest cavity, knowing that your holding a source of life. you definatelly wouldnt squeeze it! just feel it pulse and the muscles contracting and the blood pumping through.
It is pretty insane that you got to see a close up encounter that most people won't see first hand, but I guess if your going to be a surgeon you need to be ready for that. There are many different places to get a surgical degree from, but it does relate to what type of surgeon your going to be. If your committed now, go for it.
if that's what you want to do you should go for it. i personally could not stand it. i practally faint at the sight of blood and needles and get all lightheaded and such. i also couldn't live knowing that my job is life and death literally (if i was like a surgeon or something like that) and i probably could't stand working with sick people all day. but after all my criticizum if you want to be a doctor i'm sure you can do it. after all with out doctors many of us would be dead by now.
